Network Adequacy Gap Analysis

Know your gaps before CMS does.

Blueprint runs a full county-by-county adequacy gap analysis across all 22 HSD specialty categories in seconds. See every deficiency, every at-risk county, and exactly what you need to recruit before your submission deadline.

Gap Types

Not all gaps are the same.

Blueprint classifies each county-specialty issue by type and severity — so your team knows what requires urgent recruitment vs. what needs ongoing monitoring.

Geographic gaps

A county where no in-network provider of the required specialty is within the CMS time-distance threshold. The most critical gap type — these are deficiencies.

At-risk counties

A county currently adequate but where removal of any single in-network provider would create a gap. One provider termination = a deficiency.

Telehealth gaps

Counties where in-person adequacy is borderline but telehealth options could resolve the gap under applicable CMS telehealth flexibility provisions.

Specialty gaps

A county with primary care adequacy but a gap in one or more specialty categories — common in rural counties with sparse specialist availability.

Process

From roster to gap report in 4 steps.

1

Load your provider roster

Import contracted providers from CSV, NPI registry export, or manual entry. Blueprint matches every provider to their county and specialty category automatically.

2

Apply HSD thresholds

Blueprint loads the current benefit year's HSD Reference File for your state. Each county-specialty pair is checked against the correct urban/suburban/rural threshold.

3

Run the gap analysis

Blueprint calculates adequacy status for every county in your service area across all 22 specialty categories. The analysis runs in seconds — not hours.

4

Get your gap report

A ranked list of gap counties, at-risk counties, and recruitment priorities — sorted by adequacy impact. You know exactly where to focus your recruitment effort.

Output

A gap report that tells you what to do next.

Blueprint doesn't just show you a map. The gap report ranks every deficiency by impact, links directly to the providers available in that county, and shows your projected adequacy score if you were to contract with each one.

  • County-specialty pairs sorted by severity (Gap → At Risk → Adequate)
  • Provider availability list for each gap county
  • Projected adequacy score with each available provider added
  • Estimated days to close each gap (based on credentialing timeline)
  • Good-faith effort flag for counties with no available providers
